Finland Ice Marathon 2024 raportti

Finland Ice Marathon on monen tahon (ratamestarien, tapahtumajärjestäjien ja osallistujien) talven kohokohta. Ottaen huomioon haastava talvi (pakkaset, sää ja lumen määrä) oli hienoa saada tämän vuoden tapahtuma onnistumaan. Talviliikuntatapahtumissa on paljon tekijöitä, joihin tapahtumaan osallistuvat tahot eivät voi vaikuttaa. Ratamestarit aloittivat radan kunnossapitotyöt perjantai-illan Kuutamoluistelun jälkeen keskiyöllä. Jään pinnasta saatiin pois 5 cm huonoa jäätä. Ratamestarit harjasivat, höyläsivät ja aurasivat rataa kisa-aamuun klo 06 asti.

Kilpailuun lähti 470 osallistujaa 15 eri maasta. Kisa-aamun ensimmäisen startin kohdalla (100 km, klo 08:00 jäätilanne oli hyvä, ottaen huomioon lämmin sää ja tuuli. Tuuli (6-4 m/s) auttoi hieman radan jäätymistä. Jäälle oli nousut myös paikoittain vettä, johtuen lumimassasta, joka on kertynyt talven aikana. FIM Jury kokoontui aamulla klo 07.30 ja totesi jään olevan hyvässä kunnossa. FIM Jury sai myös tapahtuman aikana pitkän matkan luistelijoilta tietoa missä kunnossa rata on. Radan kunto huononi puolen päivän maissa.

On ymmärrettävää, että vallitsevat olosuhteet vaikuttivat osallistujien suorituksiin. Nostamme hattua kaikille, jotka tulivat ja tekivät mahtavia suorituksia. Oli mukavaa nähdä liikunnan iloa osallistujien katseissa maalialueella. Näissä olosuhteissa keskeyttäminen ei ole häpeä – olette kaikki voittajia! On tärkeää, että jokainen osallistuja antaa palautetta palautekyselyn kautta. Näin pystymme kehittämään tapahtumaamme entistä paremmaksi.

Finland Ice Marathon 2024 Report

The Finland Ice Marathon stands as the highlight of the winter for many stakeholders, including track managers, event organizers, and participants. Considering the challenging winter conditions (freezing temperatures, weather, and snowfall), it was wonderful to see this year's event succeed. Winter sports events involve many factors beyond the control of participants and organizers.

Track managers commenced track maintenance work after Friday night's Moonlight Skating, starting at midnight. Approximately 5 cm of poor-quality ice was removed from the surface. Track managers groomed, scraped, and plowed the track until 6:00 AM on race morning. The race attracted 470 participants from 15 different countries. By the time of the first start of the race morning (100 km, at 8:00 AM), the ice conditions were good, considering the warm weather and wind. The wind (6-4 m/s) helped the track freeze somewhat. There were also patches of water on the ice in some areas due to the snow accumulation over the winter. The FIM Jury convened at 7:30 AM and confirmed that the ice was in good condition. The FIM Jury also received updates from long-distance skaters during the event regarding the track condition. However, the condition of the track deteriorated around midday.

It is understandable that the prevailing conditions influenced the participants' performances. We applaud everyone who participated and delivered outstanding performances. It was heartening to see the joy of exercise in the participants' eyes at the finish area. In these circumstances, withdrawing from the race is not shameful – you are all winners! It is important that every participant provides feedback through the feedback survey. This way, we can improve our event even further.
